About
Hi! I'm Jenna.
Over 10+ years in pediatric critical care medicine I have developed several clinical niches.
Personally, I struggled with infertility for 7 years and after I finally achieved a pregnancy via a gestational carrier, I decided to share my story more broadly. The generations of people behind me who wish to plan or start a family need easy and transparent access to the reality of their fertility.
Did you know female fertility begins to decline at age 30?
This is an important fact everyone in medicine should know. It should be in orientation to medical school. Yet it is rarely discussed.
I am by the far the only one to struggle with this issue. I did however experience a variety of approaches to parenthood including adoption planning, IVF and gestational carriers. So I authored “Navigating your Fertility as a Woman in Medicine” to try to share all that I learned and help future physicians understand the reality of their fertility along with options available to them.
My Professional Background
I went to the University of Kansas Medical Center for medical school followed by pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. This was then followed by my pediatric critical care training at Baylor College of Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. I am now a Professor of Pediatrics/
I had an education focus early in my career and was the associate pediatric critical care fellowship program director and then program director for 9 years. Mentorship remains a passion of mine.
My Fertility Journey
Over the years, as I navigated my own fertility journey, I tried to assist my colleagues, friends, family members and trainees in their own journeys. After I achieved a pregnancy with a gestational carrier, I shared my entire 7 year journey in “Navigating your Fertility as a Woman in Medicine.”
I now share this book to try to help those behind me understand a topic that is rarely discussed.
